Art Description
In 1901, during excavations on the Acropolis of Susa (Babylon), a 2.25m high diorite stele was discovered, which contains one of the oldest surviving collections of legal rulings from the 18th century BC, the Code of Hammurabi. Legal rulings are written there in Babylonian cuneiform, including the following:

“If a house-builder built a house for a man but did not do his work properly so that the wall buckled, said house-builder will reinforce that wall with his own silver.”

On a second level, the face of Justitia, the goddess of justice from Roman mythology, can be seen, whose blindfolded eyes symbolize the impartiality of the law. The statue is located above the entrance to the Regional Court of Berlin.
