the lovers

The series “The Lovers” currently consists of two paintings that, at first glance, depict familiar, intimate scenes. Two people are kissing, seemingly bound together in deep love. The works are abstract in composition, yet the two figures remain clearly recognizable.

Just as ambiguous as the visual language is the subject itself: are these truly two lovers? Or is there no love involved at all? Could these even be pornographic depictions? As is often the case, the interpretation lies in the eye of the beholder.
